The dude is from Pittsburgh, but as an ex, I take no responsibility.

With that said, I couldn't help myself, so I asked:

"Hi,
Out of curiosity, what makes you think this auction is worth $1,750, let alone $2,000.00?

You have a few decent looking monochromes, that typically run around $20-$25. You have several others that are hole punched, which effectively makes them in poor condition. Being generous, they'll get you $10 each. You have a water damaged white box set and a set of supplement that are at best in fair condition. You'd be lucky to get $25 for each. And then you have a formerly spiral bound 3rd edition Chainmail that is both heavily damaged,with the binding removed and that suffers from heavy water damage, too. Lord only knows if there's any mold in it all that as a result of the obvious water damage. You might be able to pull $300-$350 on a good day.

Where in the world does the $2,000.00 value come from?

OMG I'm dying

I've known a lot of collectors over the years and have worked with plenty of people in sales. I know the type well.

Titles-wise, it's a pretty good collection - too bad the condition is crap on almost all of it.

You can message him that he's an idiot but it won't matter to him - like I said I'm familiar with the type. I wish some of you were at my Comic Shop when we had the argument with the "better than mint" Guy. We laugh about sellers like this but I've seen enough that all it takes is for one fool with money to be souped by the aggressive sales tactics. People use high pressure sales tactics and perceived product elitism to sell all day long. Wimps and the Uneducated have money too. I watch the inexperienced get rooked by crooked antique dealers All. Day. Long. when I go to shows.

I think the change in tactics might have something to do with the beating he took on some sales about a month ago. Too bad the guy doesn't know how to spell or title and describe his stuff properly, it would help his sales. Of course with people like that, it's always the buyer's fault that stuff goes cheap or doesn't sell.

It's like the gift that keeps on giving. A relatively short description with more "what the f___" moments than most out there.

I sent him a message too, just a simple one asking what I'd need to meet his requirements. Been over a day and still haven't heard back from him.

I did get a response, but it wasn't as bad as I had hoped. Still, he's obviously convinced it's worth more than it is because he owns it:

"It comes from the heart. I'm accepting offers but not willing to sell to someone who wants to resell. This lot has spirit and history and I won't sell to a dealer. So what's your offer.......dealer?????"

I did offer him some good friendly, albeit unsolicited advice, but it appears he didn't care. Oh well.

I wanted to launch an alert: the fact to my eyes is even more crtical than it appears! The seller is from china... If anyone over there realizes that by creating a "real fake" of a rare (take for instance OB3 which is available in pdf) you can earn 1k in a single shot, the market can be destroyed!
