The issue that stood out the most for me was Dragon 39, from July 1980

Tim Kask had moved on from TSR by July of 1980.  He became the editor of Adventure Gaming...another magazine I came across in my cataloging.  

I learned something new.  I was given a complimentary adventure, DK-1 Delverrs Keep which included a forward from Tim Kask!  Here's the adventure:

Some time ago I acquired Tim Kask's 1st print Holmes box. Inside there is a character sheet of Tim's 8th level Dwarven fighter named Khaajaahk. He is extremely powerful (18/42 STR, 18 INT(!) 18 CON, 15 WIS, 15 DEX 80 HP.
He wears +3 Chain, has a separately listed +3 Helmet (which raises the question of whether that was separately adding to his AC in those early days of D&D), +1 shield. He wields a +3 Hammer and wears a Girdle of Cloud Giant Strength (!).
He has a Ring of Spell Turning and a Ring of X-Ray Vision. And a Necklace of Missiles and a Wand of Paralyzation. All those extra things are presumably kept in his Bag of Holding along with various potions and a Scarab.

So given how potent (and relatively high level) this character is, I wonder if he was the same character Tim referenced playing at GenCon in 1974?
