Go is an incredibly complex stratagy game, based around a very simple rule set, predating chess and mahjong in chinese culture. Incredibly easy to learn. Incredibly difficult to master. Just like chess in that respect. Little played outside of China with very little in the way of good quality strategy guides on the subject. Try it. I'd recommend it to anyone who has played chess in their past.

This week I've been mostly eating . . . The white ones with the little red flecks in them.

As a kid I used to like playing the Game of Life, Masterpiece and an Australian farming game called 'Squatter'.

My vote would have to go for Avalon Hill's Titan however.

I'm a big trivia nut, so I always love playing Trivial Pursuit.

Another favorite of mine is Nuclear War... even though it is really a card game. Nice and easy to learn for newbies and megatons of fun!

It never disappoints.

The perfect party game.

We used to play tons of games of Risk, Axis & Allies and Diplomacy when I was a kid... fun stuff for larger groups... and a good way to lose friends! hehe

Oh... we also played Supremacy and that always started fights too. lol

I also always loved Space Hulk and Ogre. Both are speedy games and great for two players. Oh... and does Car Wars count? I'd consider that a spectacular tabletop game from my youth.

Oh... and never challenge me to a game of Scrabble... I pretty much never lose.

When we were kids our parents taught us Gin Rummy and Rummy, and we used to play all the time, especially on trips. It would keep us occupied for hours, great fun. Now all those kids want today is their fancy-schmancy video games...(grumble grumble)

thankfully my 2 boys are being taught the ways of the card, as my wife and I are from card playing families.
cribbage, nap, poker, brag and rummy are on the cards, so to speak!
