I would blame a single dishonest employee before I would blame all of Troll & Toad.  A less-than-honest employee is more plausible than a corrupt shipping department.  And an employee that made a simple mistake is even more likely.

Egad, a voice of reason.

And a nice new thread title to boot. ::snicker::

My first--and only--purchasing experience from Troll and Toad was negative.
Clearly, I'm not alone.

So a single dishonest employee answersa call, lies to customer, and then logs into the computer and fakes the delivery confirmation details that he just gave to the buyer. Then when the buyer finds out it's fake and complains, that same employee maintains the lie, and then responds the the inevitable PayPal dispute with the faked information.

Yes. That's possible.

But this could be solved easily....

1. Stop the phone handlers from refusing to give their names to callers, and stop them lying. If this is just one call handler, then they have been doing it for years, because they dealt with me the same way a couple of years ago.

2. Keep records of who goes into the computer system and manipulates details on the system. Or restrict access so that only certain people can enter data, then when you find out fraud is happening, you don't have to cast the net company wide.

3. When you are challenged through PayPal, Don't provide fraudulent information in order to screw the customer out of his money. Even if you've lied to them all the way through and hoped they'd just FO and shut up, if the buyer does go so far as to call you on your 'error', check your information and make sure you are not providing fake information in order to keep the guy's money.

It's only 'dead horse flogging' because on the whole the people who get screwed are not losing significant amounts of money, and the product they exagerate are only worth a few hundred bucks. And of course the buyer is buying something whimsical with no significant use in life.

If the monetary value were greater, or the item were not a 'luxury', it wouldn't be 'horse flogging'. That goes a long way to demonstrate people's values when it is less important that people get screwed by a company depending upon what that company is selling and what the buyer is buying it for.

Arguably, anyone who buys from T&T deserves what they get.

Their business practaces are well known and if you can't be ar$ed researching who you're buying from, and you value your money that low, you deserve to lose it. That's how people learn.

"DON'T buy from Troll and Toad! They lie and they will steal your money. I ordered from them and had my entire order mysteriously vanish. I called Troll and Toad and politely asked them if maybe they forgot to send it. This woman who works there but wouldn't give her name told me it "wasn't their problem anymore" because they had a delivery confirmation number. I wrote down the number and checked it at the post office.

The manager at the post office tells me it's a made up number, and that there's no package that matches that number.

So I open a dispute with pay-pal and wait a month to get the result which is that my claim is refused because Troll and Toad provided them with a Delivery Confirmation number.

Two weeks later I get a call from a different woman who works at Troll and Toad. She's obviously unaware of the pay-pal dispute and tells me there has been an error and she just found a package for me which had been shipped incorrectly and returned due to an error by Troll and Toad. I ask her how I have a delivery confirmation item for an item that was obviously never delivered. No response. I tell her I don't want the cards anymore I want my money refunded because it's been over two months and I have already purchased the item elsewhere.

Troll and Toad refuses to refund my money. I call and press the issue with Pay-Pal, I tell them to run the fake delivery confirmation number at the post office. they confirm it's a lie and refund my money.

DON'T buy anything from these crooks."

I know I'm not going to change the minds of the hard-core haters of T&T on this thread, but I don't buy everything about this accusation.  A more plausible explanation would be that the package was delivered to the wrong address.  Someone at that address signed for it, then realized that it was not their package, and sent it back to T&T.  T&T then contacted the purchaser to clear up the issue.  The purchaser was pissed and no longer wanted the item since they had purchased it elsewhere, which is understandable, and asked for a refund.

Aside from that, T&T probably should have refunded the purchase, since they apparently made a mistake in shipping, but, we don't know all of the extenuating circumstance to this situation, only those being described by the purchaser.  Only one side is being portrayed here and it's not necessarily based on the best reasoning.

I have tried to avoid adding any more to this thread but oh well.

A similar thing happened to me.  I bought an item from T&T with First Class shipping.  They supposedly shipped it but I never got it.  Tried calling their customer service which has always been a waste of my time.  So I ended up filing a paypal dispute and wouldn't you know it, they countered with a delivery confirmation number and won the claim.  I had to then call Paypal to dispute that the confirmation number was actually false since there is no such thing on First Class mail from the US to Canada and even most of the priority options don't have this.

I know there are a few people who have had misdirected packages - that does not seem to be uncommon for T&T.

It could just be one bad apple at T &T who refuses to give their name and is happy to defraud paypal, posssibly someone who needs retraining and has slipped through the HR net. These few examples may be isolated instances, a tiny percentage of a massive amount of deals that go without fuss and  drama. Or maybe its an indictment of a company thats got a 'fuck you' attitude to it's customers, knowing that there are plenty more people out there wiling to part with their hard earned cash.

We will never know the full story of any/many of these instances, but a pound to a penny says sooner or later we'll see another 'spin' job from another T&T employee/stooge.

I think I said on this thread a while ago that T&T do not care about this site or it's members - why should they, we're small fry to them and certainly not their standard targetted audience - I will personally neverr buy from them, based on the feedback of users here that I would trust, but everyone has to make their own, preferably informed, decisions.

Perhaps it is a deadd horse - but that doesn't necesarilly mean it's a bad thing to keep this thread 'live'.

One bad apple is odd. Happens to be the same bad apple that deals with customers also the one that deals with PayPal disputes? I doubt it.

Company policy appears to be to fake the PayPal info to win the dispute and f"ck the customer over, but of course we have only the buyer(s) points of view. T&T may have a perfectly valid reason why they provide false information to PayPal to win their claims.

It does strike me that T&T issues are more common with sales outside the US. Several Canadian and UK issues, but most US guys seem ok with it.

On a similar level with the Coug I guess (not that I'd ever buy from him) but several UK guys here appear ok to do so, but the US wouldn't touch him.

Interesting that the usual T&T guys who speak up are deafening in their silence though.

I can understand that they don't want the flak, I wouldn't if I broadcast my job position on a public forum (I'm a pole dancer, BTW) but it'll be interesting to see who pops up sometime between now and next February to tell us all about the wonderful changes happening at the Toad.

I just hope that the current 'lost' minis mentioned earlier really are being looked into by Crimsonspire.  :?

The US guys would say the same about Cougie.
T&T don't sh!t in their own back yard. If you're gonna f"ck people over, you do it to foreigners who can do FA about it.

T&T won't try to defend something in open forum in case they get asked specifically about something they did and were found to be lying or covering up fraud. Best just to leave the allegation as an allegation than to try to discus it and find out how much proof the accuser has. It's good politics, but Google archives everything, and a lively thread like this attracts readers and rids them of pottential target customers.

If he/she/it did actually do something after saying they would, it would be a major shock. He/she/it was over here a year ago asking for us to point out misleading/incorrect/dishonest eBay listings (s)he would deal with and (s)he did f"ck all about them. To fouind out (s)he told the truth and kept to his/her word would be a major step forward for T&T's image.

Can you imagine T&T being able to point to something we highlighted and be able to say, "Look, we fixed this problem." or, "We were honest in this transaction. We fixed it."?

That's good news. They have a new excuse repetoire. Lost in the move. Turmoil. Confusion. Sorry for the delays.

New computer system will be next. Files bein transfered. Ne stock controll system. Lost records. Wrong backup. Manager lost his head up his bosses a$$.

We'd love to see some positive outcomes on some of these complaints. Tracking them keeps them current. If they get forgotten about they can quietly be brussed under the carpet. And God knows T&T need some possitive PR on threads like this.

So, where do the Cougie complainers go? They don't seem to come here too often.

well on the bright side, i had an old guy come into my shop a few days ago (yes it is open now, hard work, but fun) - he saw the basic D&D set i am selling and looked in shock and went "bloody hell mate i havent seen one of them for almost 30 years"! we then spent about 3 hours (around customers) talking about D&D :D

he wants to be in the group when i manage to finally arrange a game to play! he is 66 years old :)

was the funniest conversation i have had for ages :)

just thought i would lighten the thread up :)
