Haven't been paying too much attention to gaming and EBay the last few. Life just kinda sucked the enthusiasm outta me in recent years. I've lurked occasionally, but that's about it. Still have a lot of stuff to sell off, but my last camera went belly up, and every avenue for a freebie (from relatives and such) hasn't paid off (they're either actual film or they don't work either). Might have to break down at some point and just buy one new.

The original premise was that they were not, but in recent years there have been quite a few that have come up in similar vintage SW.  Since there has been no conclusive evidence that they were factory shrink-wrapped, a reasonable conclusion would be that one or more UK hobby/games shops shrink-wrapped them to keep the components together and protected.

Why TSR wouldn't have done this initially is beyond comprehension.  Maybe at some point they did, after they were produced, or perhaps they worked with their distributors/stores to have them shrink-wrapped.  Until someone that worked for TSR, or a hobby shop owner can verify whether TSR did it or a hobby shop performed the shrink-wrapping, it will remain a mystery.  It would probably be safe to assume that it wasn't just done by purchasers, although that could have happened occasionally, too.

If anyone that has purchased one in SW could inquire with the seller, it could be most helpful.  Perhaps the seller would have knowledge of how the fighting wheel was originally packaged.  I've been able to confirm through one source that they were purchased in SW.  He has purchased two of them, both were in SW.  He had no way of knowing whether it was factory SW or done by the hobby shop, though.

As mentioned, the best way to determine when they were shrink-wrapped is to get confirmation from a hobby shop owner or ex-TSR employees that was involved.

This is probably right...  The SW version of this sold for 1k not too long ago...  That wrap-around cover is pretty expensive... 8-)

The general consensus is that the UPC barcode should be crossed out, but it's possible that some copies weren't marked.

It wouldn't be difficult for someone to add it, so it's likely not too much of a factor.  The main selling points are the module and the wrap-around cover.

Aside from the grade, how many of this condition do you think are out there? It cant be many.
