We believe the last issue with a mailing label affixed to the rear was issue #10.  Starting with #11, brown mailing covers started being used.

Odd...  #74 was my first subscription copy too!  It came with that combat computer insert, IIRC.

I had my subscription up until I believe the mid to late 90s. I can't remember when I opened my comic book store or worked at my friend's a few years after, it was cheaper to order through Diamond than have the subscription. Eventually I stopped altogether once he got rid of his store, or possibly a few years prior. Same with my Dungeon. Dungeon came in a polybag as I still have a couple sealed from my original subscription of that. That is why I'm missing issues later in the series. Never went back and got them. Eventually....

Has anyone here submitted those early Dragon with sub labels on them? That would be a good indicator of whether or not we've graded any with sub labels and did not separate them out as a variant. Like I said, I know with Sports Illustrated and maybe Playboys, they note about sub labels. In fact, they are very particular because some labels are removed, but the experts at my job still can tell with the subtle indent or very light amount of glue left on the cover. Sub labels do not affect grade either unless they are torn and do damage. I also believe sub copies demand slightly more money than newsstand.

A week to go in the Heritage Auction that features nearly 300 slabbed RPG items, and the prices are starting to heat up. Almost everything in this auction is NM (9.2 or better). Interested to see in a week where this ends up...

I don't know how many copies of a pristine 1st edition module limited to 5K copies is going to come up for auction.

Agreed, L3 is a fun one to have for display (I have a 9.8 myself), but since most were boxed and not played I have a feeling NM condition will be over represented with this one.
The keys are going to be early TSR modules, AD&D 1E, in 8.5 or better condition. They are 40+ years old, and everyone played their copies, spilled drinks on them, wrote in them, etc. People are going to soon realize how difficult it is to find one of these in NM (9.2) condition or better.

Right now leading in the Heritage auction are exactly what you would think if that's the case: D3 8.5---$360; I6 9.2---$310; G1-3 9.4---$310; S1 Mono 6.5---$280; S1 Green cover 9.4---$260; S4 Orange cover 9.4---$220; S3 8.5---$210.

I agree, getting a 8.5 is going to be the trick. Over half of my best, the ones I looked at as in really nice condition, are a 7.0-8.0. 15% of my submissions were 8.5 or higher, and yes, those did stand out with one being removed from split shrink wrap.

I am curious to see how the shrink stuff shakes out. I will accept, or possibly even change my mind, about graded shrink over time. I didnt even think about it till the discussion here. Cards and comics just arent in shrink wrap, but this is its own thing.

Actually the video games being shrinked is where it pretty much all began. I am an avid vintage video game collector. Been doing it for almost 30 years now. I have over 2000 games for 35 systems. The newest consoles I own would be Sega CD, Turbo Graphx, and PS1. Never owned an Xbox or after the original PS. I have an extensive Atari 2600 collection, over 600 games, have over 500 NES. My Atari is my pride and joy, with over 300 boxes and probably at least half that sealed. Eventually I'll get a lot of this graded too.
