That seems to be because you have a fixed idea in your mind at what price you wanted the original creator/writer to sell them to Mars for, or you and Mars. Was it $30 or $40 a copy?

I did buy that Phantasy Conclave for $10 as a Buy it Now just seconds before Brette got to it, but it just isn't the same thing as lying to a guy about the potential value of the last 12 copies he kept of his own game for 25 years. If you don't know the difference between buying something at auction at a good rice and cold calling people to tell them you have a great deal on some worthless property they have sitting around, then there is no help for you.

Strat, you and Mars do the hobby a great deal of harm by hunting down and low balling the old school writers/publishers of their last remaining stock. How many of these guys with a little encouragement and maybe some decent sales on their old material would get up and offer reprints, or go with kickstarters or pdfs.

I'm a treasure hunter. I don't lie to people about value. I have about 25 years selling RPGs experience and I know what I have sold and seen sold over the years with a good idea of how to sell for maximum value. If I see a good or great price as a buy it now or overlooked aucyion, I use 25 years of knowledge to help me on what is worth buying and what to value you it at if I sell or trade it. The Phantasy Conclave isn't worth $500 to me. That is why I'm selling it. But it is as rare as a hen's tooth with none popping up for sale. I've probably had it for sale for 4 months total in the last 2 years. This month is free on ebay, but it is something like .50c a month to list it. $30 if I list it month after month for 5 years.

So if somebody asks me what potential value I think a pristine copy would go for, I'd give them an honest answer. It wouldn't be $80 bucks or $100. Selling smart, one copy at a time, I think that the original publisher could sell them for from $500 to $1,000 a pop. A lot of collectors have been wanting to check this off their list from Heroic Worlds for a long time.

NOTE: A big word of warning to collectors wanting to sell their collections. Do not take the first 'private offer' that comes along. Sell in haste and repent in leisure.

Jason i have no knowledge of any other copies of phantasy conclave. i have never spoken to mars about phantasy conclave. i have never attempted to track down designers of solitary 20-year old products and negotiate with them to acquire their remaining stock.

i was trying to make the point earlier that i wouldn't pay more than $40 for the copy you are selling for $450 is not because i know that i will be able to acquire some other copy; it's because the one you are trying to sell is CRUSHED. i hope i get a copy some day, but i wouldn't want yours, because i wouldn't pay much for a placeholder copy, even of a rare item, as long as it's not a unique item. i will roll the dice that one will eventually come my way.

And it is a nearly unique, "unpublished" item. Phantasy conclave is totally different in its publication history.

Loki, I think you are stretching things there. I see a great deal of parallel between the mercury games thread and the phantasy conclave. I think we can also point to any number of items which slipped by at good, great or fantastic prices.

I figure the next step is that you are going to put my picture up next to Marshal Petain.

Normally I use the market (mainly ebay) to set the price. I always try to undercut, but sometimes you have to just guess and let the market set the price. Some items you have to give the market a chance and at only .50c or so a month to list, I am for giving the market a good chance which could be several years.

Its amazing that you probably actually believe this.  But in reality you constantly lie and cheat people.  litchfieldexplorationandsalvage  is a seller to avoid at all costs - take your chances with cougarrinard instead.  You are one of the absolute worst sellers out there and are a detriment to hobby and any buyer that crosses your path.  Case in point is Mouth of Madness.  At best you are an ignorant seller who claims to be an RPG expert/Greyhawk expert and at worst you are a liar and a cheat for taking the guy's $90 on an incomplete item that is basically worthless.  Considering that I've called you on similar frauds in the past, its clear you fall in the liar/cheat category.

I think you are confusing some terms.  You're not a "treasure hunter" your a "profiteer" - someone who will do anything lie/cheat/steal to make a quick buck.  Most of your auctions are geared towards waiting for some noob buyer to show up and overpay - this is by far the worst thing for the hobby.  Scamming anyone new getting into the hobby like you do only leaves them with a bad impression.  You show up on public forums to create a false impression of value.  You are completely deluded:

Seriously? Phantasy Conclave will sell for more than Brown Box D&D, TSR Tournament modules, rare RPGA modules, etc.  I think of you more as the Lorraine Williams of the hobby - don't really care for anyone in the hobby but if you can make a few bucks off of them then your good to go.

And following the fallacious argumentation: "only a sale can be a good indicator to the correct price."

Ok... The only Phantasy Conclave on ebay sold for... $10? Is it right?

Since the sole and only sale of this game is $10, it is the unique and undisputable reference, and BTW Phantasy Conclave value is $10.
