I am not sure I am going to be able to make the dinner this year (I had to miss it last year, unfortunately) but am definitely looking forward to seeing people at the auction again.  We are also going to be showing about 12 minutes from the Dungeons & Dragons: A Documentary project with a panel afterwards with some of the crew. I hope those of you that are interested and have a free hour Saturday afternoon can make it over.  Below is the announcement we are starting to pass around for it.  -Matt

~~~
If you're into roleplaying or tabletop gaming then you've maybe, just maybe, heard about a game called Dungeons & Dragons. And if you've followed our Kickstarter then you've heard about a film called Dungeons & Dragons: A Documentary. A film about the godfather of contemporary gaming and even entertainment; everything from True Dungeon to League of Legends.
We've been in production for our documentary that explores the origins of the game, the story of its founders, and how it continues to influence so many aspects of today's culture. From how we interact at live events like Gen Con, to how we are helping educate our children and even mental health. According to one of our interviews, if you're on Facebook, then you're roleplaying.
Some exciting news for us -- we will be hosting a panel at GenCon where we will screen a 12-minute clip of the film and do a Q&A with the filmmakers. We're currently at a crucial point in the edit of the film and therefore will welcome your support. Why does Dungeons & Dragons speak to you? What aspects of our screener would you like to see more of?
If you're at Gen Con, our panel will be on Saturday, August 16th, at 2pm, at the Westin: Capitol I. More info at Gen Con LLC | Gen Con Indy 2014.
If you come by please know that your time and your support will be graciously appreciated. We want to get to know you and understand why Dungeons & Dragons has gained your curiosity!
To learn more about our film, please visit our website.
Come by and visit! If you can't, please feel free to email us at: a20sidedstory@gmail.com
Thanks so much!
Guess that's 11 so far.
Given Frank's recommendation, I'll try Palomino.  If you can make it, post here, and based on numbers by Saturday, I'll call and try to make a reservation.  Probably around 7 pm.
(And I'll make sure to let Tim know.)
Wish I could be there for the dinner, but won't be in until Thursday. :(
That is really sad.
It isn't exactly true that they don't have a booth.  They just have the entirety of Hall D.
The Acaeum dinner will be Wednesday evening, August 13, at Palomino, 49 West Maryland Street.  (Thanks for the recommendation, Frank.)  The reservation starts at 6:30, but feel free to arrive later.
(P.S.  I like Fogo as well, but it's pricy, especially for anyone who doesn't really love meat.  So I went with Palomino, since it will have a more flexible menu.)
So far, I have 14 attending.  I'll need to let the restaurant know a final count eventually, but there's still time to post here if you want to join us.
I plan on attending the Acaeum dinner again this year as well, probably +1, possibly +2.
Thanks for setting it up again Mark, see you in three weeks!
These GenCon threads get me depressed.  I desperately want to attend one but I've never been able to make it.   :cry:
I just have to live it vicariously through you guys.
I second those feelings, I've wanted to attend for a long time and was finally gearing up for this year with the 40th anniversary and all but life happens! Have our first kiddo on the way in just a couple weeks!  8-O Looks like i'll be shooting for next years NTRPG Con instead!!
I will try to make the dinner, but as of now I still don't have a hotel room.  Chances are I will be staying out of the city and renting a car, so hopefully I will still make it.
On another note, does anyone have any insight on any Gencon exclusive products that we should be on the hunt for in the exhibit hall?  Last year I picked up a couple of nice items that were exclusives, and I was wondering if anybody knew of anything worth picking up.  Maybe something for the 40th anniversary of D&D??
I'd like to attend again.  Our hotel room is out of town, but we'll need to head in to pick up our shuttle passes.  If traffic is favorable and doesn't strand us for several hours (always a possibility) I'll be there.
On an unrelated note, I'm trying to settle on a charity auction donation for this year.  I was thinking of putting in one of my "Steampunk Sonic Screwdriver" prototypes; I just don't have anything really exciting to offer in terms of gaming collectibles.
If there are some GenCon exclusive goodies, I'd be happy to reimburse anyone willing to pick some up for me. :)
I would be more than happy to, but I haven't had the time to research the various game companies to see who is offering exclusives.  Last year I picked up the ghosts of dragonspear and the firefly rpg gencon beta.  If anyone is aware of anything cool please post it.
