Had a great time this year spending time with several of Acaeum members.  I didn't get to do True Dungeon this year, but perhaps next year.

In regard to the auction, it's been mentioned by others that the auction, at least in regard to the rares, was not very good.  I did manage to pick up a few nice items, such as a TSR Spotlight, a D&D TSR / St. Regis Playing Aids 3-ring binder (thanks stratochamp), Dundracon Artifact Cards (which turned out to be complete), a nice OCE set (thanks again stratochamp!), and a few Polyhedron and Dragon magazines I was missing.  In the exhibit hall, the only place that I ended picking up some items from was Goodman Games.

There were three 10th anniversary module sets, and a really nice 10th anniversary box set that was opened, but mostly complete, sold at the auction too.  Several white box sets were also in the auction, but most didn't sell initially.  I think they all did end up selling afterwards.  Overall, the sales prices for some of the rarer items at the auction were not very high, so there were some decent purchases made.  Some of the more common items actually went for decent prices though.

A big thanks to Melnibonean for going through the effort to lug a few of his collectible items, he was looking to part with, to Gen Con for a late night Acaeum-style "drug deal", as my daughter put it.    She got a big kick out of seeing us doing behind-closed-doors passionate discussions on collectibles.  Blackmoor picked up a sweet box set and the ST1 that Bracton picked up was in fantastic condition.

We also got some extra gaming in, with some of our kids, which was great.  Tracy Hickman's foray into the Eye of the Dragon was a blast to watch.  Everyone died at the end in a grand fashion!  The last survivor struck a pose, just before being crushed under tons of rubble...

Overall, this year's Gen Con was excellent, despite the massive crowds.  I really enjoyed the time spent with friends and fellow Acaeum members.  Truly a great group of people!

I think most people would be tempted to send you copies of Lankhmar and Minas Tirith + Slag Hills if they could repeat that crazy high-side of $1,000 total for the two, Frank.

What a strange auction realization list that is: might take some time to try to figure out reasons for some of the "lows" as well as the "highs" to get a feel for the big picture, other than the lack of high-end sales under the hammer that presumably helped cause the two distortions above...

Your fees are too high.  I have to pay $1.50/3.00 to enter an item and then a 15% commission.  I can sell a single item on eBay as a basic auction with a free listing and only 10% fee.  The online auction will reach a wider audience and I don't have to carry it to Gen Con with me and wait for over an hour to get it logged in.  It's easy to ship individual books, box sets and modules with free flat-rate boxes from USPS.

Brown Box!  Some of us are still trying to acquire a white box that doesn't look like it was found in an alley after being attacked by rabid squirrels (and sold as *near mint*).

I did pick up a few minor items at the auction (signed Pathfinder rulebook and TSR worlds #2)

Rabbit_67, I don't know my Companion copy is pretty minty. I say we compare. LOL, also nice grab on the 10th anniversary set, I need that one too.

Unrelatedly, prior to GenCon, stratochamp mentioned in another thread that he thought that the Known World Map would have done better  if sold at GenCon vs. eBay. Given how light the auctioned collectibles were, do you guys agree with Bill's assessment? (I'm not trying  to pick a fight with Bill, just trying to get some further insight from all of you who were on-scene this year ).

My recommendation to the seller was to sell on eBay, given the wider audience. However, with a light collectibles market this year, I could see that dragging down the KW map, or really boosting it (since there wasn't anything else super-rare to bid on).

Thoughts?
