Dungeons & Dragons museum proposed for Lake Geneva, where the game originated Dennis Hines Jun 28, 2021 Updated 20 hrs ago A proposal before the city would establish a Dungeons & Dragons museum at 723 Williams St. Dungeons and Dragons was invented by Gary Gygax in Lake Geneva in 1974, along with partner Dave Arneson. The fantasy role-playing game exploded in popularity, and the business flourished and was later bought by Wizards of the Coast in 1997. Two years later, Wizards of the Coast was acquired by Hasbro, a $4-billion-a-year corporation. To allow for the creation of the museum, members of the Lake Geneva Plan Commission unanimously approved, June 21, to rezone the Williams Street property from a general business district to a central business district. The plan commission members also unanimously approved to allow for a commercial apartment to be located on the second floor of the building. Both the rezoning of the property and the second-floor commercial apartment still has to be approved by the city council, which is set to vote on the issue 6 p.m., June 28 in the city hall building, council chambers, 626 Geneva St.Justin LaNasa, owner of the property, said the museum is set to open soon after the rezoning is approved and the property's parking lot meets the city's code regulations.Dungeons and DragonsLaNasa said the curator of the museum will live in the second-floor apartment."As soon as we get the parking lot up to code, we're ready," LaNasa said. "It's mainly exhibits, and it's up and ready to go. We're just waiting to come up to code."
mbassoc2003 wrote in TSR relaunched?:That sounds cool. I hope Justin LaNasa does a promo YouTube video to promote the museum, or some such. I doubt I'll ever get the chance to see it otherwise.
benjoshua wrote in TSR relaunched?:I'm sure you know this, but just to be clear, LaNasa is currently being excoriated on social media for a number of issues in the rpg gaming community. He can promote all he wants, but it likely won't be received well. :?

When called out, he naively tried to clarify/justify his opinion/sense of humour, and didn't realise that in the wokey world of modern snowflake-ism, you stop digging when the arbiters of social conscience point out that you're opinion is a proverbial shovel full of shit. You'd figure people would just STFU when pulled up about something they said/wrote, especially with endless examples of people destroying their careers, it should be prescient. Bledsaw and Zak come to mind right off the bat. "Who?" Some may ask. Exactly.
Badmike wrote in TSR relaunched?:He's a grifter pure and simple. He's a failed politician from North Carolina who rolled into Wisconsin and bought the TSR and Star Frontiers logos, without buying any of the trademarked material behind it, and began insinuating he was going to "Bring Back TSR" based on this (despite the fact there are no fewer than a dozen or so existing companies already putting out old school derived product without needing the old TSR logo for cred). He bought the TSR museum (a "museum" that is not a non-profit), and promptly began selling $1 dice from Dollar Tree as "TSR" dice for $15 a set. He also began charging $1000 a session for people to rent a room to game with Ernie, while only kicking back 25% of the proceeds to Ernie. He has set up a company that is going to roll with the Giantlands system boxed set by Jim Ward (low scale LARP) as their "premier" old school gaming product and the foundation of their new company (btw, no one has Giantlands yet because the KS is two years late and counting). He has also advertised "TSR Con" at the Hortorculturial Hall for a future date to be decided (said hall can only accommodate 150 people at best). Lots of promises and very little to actually fill the promises. My guess is that it's a money grab aimed at old school gamers who don't pay attention or do research into claims like the ones LaNasa is making, and he'll leave behind a string of unfinished projects and disappointed gamers. It will probably work out to his satisfaction, given the clueless nature of the gaming public on this subject.Mike B.

mbassoc2003 wrote in TSR relaunched?:So this is who Ernie got the idea of fleecing the D&D community from - on account of having a surname and a similar history of failure and false promises - birds of a feather and all that.

Or is it something else, or a combination of these factors and more? I get the impression that a lack of organization and motivation play a part. :?

If (the new) TSR makes good games, then buy them, if they don’t, don’t. I’m looking forward to seeing what they produce.
Mordenkainen wrote in TSR relaunched?:It now appears that after bungling the last few days of social media management, Ernie Gygax and Stephen Dinehart have deleted their twitter accounts. @TSR_Games is still up, however.
mbassoc2003 wrote in TSR relaunched?:I suspect he's just a dumb idiot who needs money and in the absence of any form of talent, only has the family name to monetise. A typical kid who would be nobody without daddy's name. I doubt any of the parties have any intent other than to make as much money as they can. I don't see that ignoring any obligation to provide the customer with value is in any way 'evil'. The majority of corporate and governmental structures have exactly the same attitude, so they are only doing what the majority of middle managers and bureaucrats are doing in regard to not giving a F about anyone other than themselves. He just happens to have been handed a golden ticket and decided to wipe his arse with it.
