I don't have confirmation from family/friends that the above was actually for the same Alphonso Warden (I tried unsuccessfully to contact relatives), but his name is not common, and all of his forum accounts (here, DF, and Goodman Games) have last visitation dates shortly before the date of death mentioned in the memorial page. The last time he and I exchanged emails was just a couple weeks before that date. His email account is shut down, and I can find no evidence of online activity for him after that date. I reached out to a couple of of other gaming folks who he had been in contact with, and none of them have had contact with Alphonso since before that date in Apr 2012.

In addition to the dozen+ modules to his name, Alphonso also published some short stories in Bards and Sages Quarterly. Alphonso had an unpublished module manuscript that he had been shopping with publishers shortly before he passed.

Sad news. I think you may be right. Here is his last post on DF dated April 9 2012:

I am of the opposite mind. I find that modules are highly entertaining reads. Heck, even though I am a prolific reader in general, I much prefer reading modules to reading novels and short stories. I find that reading a module engages both the analytical and creative portions of my brain whereas reading a novel only stimulates the creative/imaginative portion. When I read a module I am always trying to reconcile the designer's concepts with the rules of the game, especially a module with a lot of complicated traps requiring various dice rolls and novel rules mechanics. And then there are the various combat scenarios in your typical module, which I try to run in my mind as I am reading them. Such are examples of how the analytical portion of my brain is stimulated. Of course, the module designer's encounter descriptions -- especially if he or she goes into explicit detail -- engage the creative portion of my brain as I try to visualize such.

As for creating my own adventures, I find such to be a pleasant diversion. Oddly enough, after I have written a module I immediately become bored with it and never want to look at it again let alone run it. I usually loan my module manuscripts to my gaming friends to run for their players. Such means that I almost never DM my own material and instead prefer to DM published modules. I prefer running the latter because such is a novel experience for both myself and my players. I am trying to implement another designer's concepts into my interpretation of the game, which means I never know what to expect. With my own work, I always go into exacting detail on how to run the adventure that when it comes time to do so, the experience is rarely novel or entertaining, at least for myself.
