Please count me as well as a +1 for two total.

This will be my first chance for dinner with the rest of you. My +1 is a good friend of mine who came to his first Gencon last year and has now agreed to make it an annual thing.

Let me also add...

We stay at the Omni and have gotten into the habit of bringing a fairly large selection of microbrews and having a bit of a beer garden in the lobby in the evenings. If this interests some of you I would be glad to have you there.

Add a +2 to my guests for the pre Gen Con dinner. I'll have some friends along and a couple of them are true fans of some of the old school guys who will be there. They are SO stoked. :)

If you can find any 3 Floyds beers, I highly recommend anything they brew. Zombie Dust, Alpha King and Gumballhead are all awesome but are very hard to find. Even though the brewery is located in Munster Indiana it is rare to find in the Indianapolis area.

Just a reminder for those attending -- the Acaeum dinner is this Wednesday, at Palomino, 49 West Maryland Street.  I've told them to expect more than 20, and they seemed quite happy.  The reservation starts at 6:30, but feel free to arrive whenever you can.  When you get there, you can ask for the "Acaeum" table.  (And I warned them about the multiple possible pronunciations; though I still prefer "ah-kay-um".)

Three days to go!   :D

The cabinet is off to a good start:

A copy of the RPGA artist portfolio.

A copy of Titan (1st printing. Not Tim's copy.)

A copy of a Steve Jackson Games Cthulhu demonstration deck for Munchkin that Frank says is supposed to be very, very rare.

Other items I spotted include a copy of War of the Ring in fair/good condition, Dungeon #1, a copy of Strategic Preview #5 and other items but it is still very early.

If you pronounce it "ah-kay-um," then you are not uh-SAY-ing it correctly.

I've always pronounced it a-see-um - is that wrong?

According the FAQ on this web-site:

How do you pronounce "Acaeum"?

uh-SAY-um.  Or at least, that's how we pronounce it.

Had a great time at the dinner this year as always. It was nice to talk to Zenfinite, JimK and his friend and see many of the other Acaeum members. We didn't buy very many items in the auction this year but did pick up a few pieces of artwork.

At the auction this year, many reserves were a bit high - but then again, many items without reserves went for way too low. Some kind of happy medium is needed.

I'm back from Gen Con, and need to post a summary and a few pictures.  But it will have to wait until I get some sleep.

I agree completely with this. If I were someone building a collection, I could have done extremely well. Specifically with the more common items. They were selling for next to nothing or not at all. But this seemed to be consistent with just about everything. SPI S&T magazines with unpunched games were going for $6 or less. Issues pre-#10 were not selling at all with insanely low prices. I think Blackmoor scored a S&T #1 for a song.
The rare auction, while having a significantly better selection than the last two years combined, was also lackluster. I think Stratochamp had several nice pieces in the rares auction, but there were no bidders to be had. A few items did sell, but in general, it was slow going.

When I get some time, I will set a photo album on photobucket.

Again, the most glaring thing for me was the complete lack of D&D presence in the dealer's hall - which was massively expanded from last year (It is huge to begin with). WotC had a single little counter with a pathetic little display in the main gaming hall for 5e. It was really disappointing. I had to ask directions to find the damn thing. I brought my 16-year-old son with me and told him of the old days when TSR had their giant castle at the head of the dealer hall. He looked at me and said sarcastically, "Well, dad. They replaced it with the tower of T-shirts." That is Gen Con in a nutshell.

And I could've bought these damn modules off the 1$ rack!!!

I would opine that the un-success of collector's items in the auction has to do more with the slide of Gencon towards an "entertainment" con rather than a gaming con than other factors.  Is there some kind of corporate strategy as to why WOTC had zero presence at this year's dealer's hall despite the release of 5E?
