I believe they use an alpha system for grading SW. I'm not sure if they disclose that anywhere on their site, though.

Badmike's shorting himself on this one in his description.

I have several copies of this module rated 9.6 or better. This looks incredible but I thought I would part with it for a fair price. I think it was under graded but CBCS is much tougher in my comparisons than CGC when it comes to things like color break, no matter how minor. This would be a 9.0 with CGC but I prefer the "tougher" ratings. SW is rated "B-" and I confess unless it's really bad or really good shrink it's hard for me to determine "sw grade".

Here are the graders notes from Mike's module:

spine stress breaks color 1 long on top back cover that creases
small indent bottom right front cover barely breaks color

shrinkwrap: 1/2" tear top right corner onto front cover, many small scratches and indents, 1.5" scratch top left corner front

I think the grade on Mike's book makes sense giving the notes.

I would agree but even after intense examination I can barely see the flaws mentioned. They were REALLY strictly grading this one. But I'm not unhappy with the grade, I'd rather have a tough grade than CGC (this would have been 9.0 at least from them). CBCS is much stricter on many things, color breaks being one of them.

What I find funny is that they have the page quality as "white". If it's sealed, how do they know what the pages look like. Just because something is sealed doesn't guarantee specific quality of pages. It could have been stored in a hot attic for a long period of time next to heat which could affect page quality.

The prices for these items are still all over the place. Which can be expected given how 'new' grading is to D&D. It will be interesting watching the pricing ranges form for different quality items.

Very true. I've been tracking Ebay sales for over a year now and it's been interesting. IMO too much paid for what I consider "average" slabbed modules (anything under a 7.5) and not enough for "exceptional" modules (9.2 and better, aka NM). I will say that tracking sales, there have been more and more and they are steadily rising. I think it's just about to blow up. In a lot of ways it matches the slow rise and then explosion of slabbed comic books 20 years ago.
