Agreed.  But what I'm saying is, by resting the starters the last 3 to 4 games of the year we should re-load our starters for the start of the playoffs.  Everyone will be back and ready to go.

By the way, Brady looked old in the game last night.  Missed a lot of throws down the field and did not have any intensity.  I think the Pats (if they make the playoffs) are "one and done".

He is probably tired. Remember he didn't play last year; it might be catching up with him.

Plus he's not playing the "Pats game".  How many times were the Pats down in the 4th quarter in 2007?  They aren't able to play the offense that Brady is comfortable with being down against teams like the Saints and Jets and it shows. The Pats make their hay by building up a big lead then tormenting opponents with good solid defense and an offense that was not afraid to run the score up.

With the Steelers also playing pretty poor ball it should be an interesting playoffs in the AFC. I think the Titans run is going to be very intriguing should they keep it up and sneak into the last playoff spot.

I disagree.  The missed FG with 5:20 left is just the kind of momentum changer a team like the Pats could use.  Hell, I've seen Tony Romo throw three TDs in five minutes, you can't say Brady wouldn't have a chance.

Like the 4th down decision awhile back, I think instead the decision speaks volumes about what Bellicheat thinks about his defense...that continuing to score wouldn't help, since the Saints would just shred them again for another long TD.  If you have faith in your D you put your offense back out on the field and hope you can get the ball back quickly.  I don't think the Pats have that mindset any longer. And you aren't going far in the playoffs with a defense you don't trust.  Peyton and the Colts will destroy the Pats if they meet in the playoffs....I don't think the Pats will be able to beat any offense that can put points on the board quickly, as the Colts have proven they can do.

As awful as the Cowboys have looked this season, I am heartened by the fact this is the best defense I've seen the Boys play in many years.  That will keep them in games they have no business winning.

Odds on a big comeback in a few minutes against the Saints?

Odds on an injury to a starter in those wasted efforts?

One of the reasons people don't like Bellichek is that he refuses to play foolish Rah Rah Football.  Instead, he has a cold stare focus on the odds and the angles.  He was already thinking about the next game.

Bellichek's decision against the Colts was based on pure math...like a calculated move in poker.  It was the right call.  It just didn't work that  time.

That's why the Patriots are also known for cold, calculated personnel moves.  They have refused to pander to the ego of any one player.

(It is also a measure of the long-term stupidity of a team like the Seahawks, that they would pay for a player like Deon Branch.  Imagine my chagrin when the Seahawks paid huge money this off season for a receiver that the Bengals no longer wanted.  Sigh - New coach, same old stupid.)

Three Super Bowl wins...and almost a fourth.  Say Bellichek is wrong.

By that logic every team should pull their players if they are down in the last two minutes....I mean, their chances of winning and tieing are small...why risk an injury?  If my coach wanted to play that sort of game, I'd fire him.  Immediately. I want a coach that wants to win, not one that wants to teach a team a lesson, or preserve players for a "future" game. Which is why one of the reasons Bellicheat will walk away one fine day in the near future...he already has the rings, he doesn't need the aggravation, and he doesn't have the fire anymore. Last night's white flag waving last night proved it.  The Pats are done this season.

Belicheat gets credit for a lot of great things he's done...but that doesn't mean all his moves are genius. Arthur Conan Doyle was a genius...but he believed in pixies and faeries. Bellicheat is a genius...but he also made the excreable 4th down call against the Colts (the reason more people don't make that call has nothing to do with math, that's face saving Monday morning QBing bullshit from Bellicheat supporters, it has to do with the fact your trust in your defense is zero, and in that case you're screwed anyway), not to mention a VERY questionable 4th down call last night instead of taking 3 sure points.  If the Pats don't come out gangbusters vs the Dolphins next week, everyone will point straight to this game's give up for the reason.

A lot of coaches look like genius's when their team is winning...Jimmy Johnson sure looked like one with Emmit, Michael and Troy playing for him. He looked less like one in Miami. Bellicheat is looking less and less like one without the vastly underrated defense that played for him the last few years.

Exactly.  That's what they should do in the situation that Patriots had last night.  Smart play.

Exactly.  Bingo.  Shazam.  You've said it exactly right.

It was a smart call that didn't work out.

If Wade Phillips, Tom Cable, Jim Zorn or (fill in the blank for a coach who doesn't have a ring) did that, they might be fired that Monday, and run out of town on a rail, and that would be the smart move...you don't want your coach coaching scared.   Bellicheat gets a free pass because he has three rings. My point is it doesn't make it "smart" because he does it, any more than Van Gogh's genius makes chopping off his ear a "smart" move.

I think it speaks to Bellicheat's being bored more than any sort of strategy.  He'll be moving along soon; the game means nothing to him anymore.

Was it last year that the Colts beat the Texans in a game where they were down 17 points with less than 4 minutes to play.  Kind of blows up that theory.

I've watched Billy Boy since the Browns days. He is, without doubt, the greatest coach I've ever seen or heard about. He never makes the "politically correct" calls, he is a cold hard asshole. Exactly the kind of coach I'd have if I had a team. Hard to say he's a bad coach when he is sporting 3 rings and has the rep he has.
The "cheating" thing is old and done. All teams cheat, a few get caught. Keep in mind, AFTER the world-destroying videotape incident, they beat every single team they played. In fact, they actually bested the Fish, since the season was only 14 games back when they ran the gamut.
Here's a question for ya: Since Tony Dungheap left, the Colts haven't missed a stride. Seems to me it wasn't HIM that made the Colts such a good team, even though he seems to get a huge amount of the credit.

Makes sense to me.  But with that remark you might as well also say that the Patriots would still be winning even if Bill left.  Kinda like Barry Switzer in Dallas.  He could have sat on the sideline with his thumb up his butt the entire season and the Cowboys still would have won the '95 Super Bowl.  Seifert was also the benefit of a great team in San Fran back in the 90's.  He left for Carolina and couldnt get them to the playoffs.

Although I do believe that a great coach can turn just about any team around.  And we all know what Tony Dungy did with the Buccaneers.  That being said, I consider him a pretty damn good coach.

Without any evidence to the contrary, I've always thought that was the case anyway........

That was the Colts versus the Texans.

This was the Patriots versus the Saints.

Huge difference.  The Colts were a historic, great team getting beat by a big-time underdog.  The Patriots are slightly above a middle-of-the-pack team and they were in their second game in a row against an unbeaten contender.

What percentage chance would you give that the Patriots could have come back on the Saints last night?

I'm estimating just about 3% or less.

Saints/Colts in the Bowl would be a good game, but there is really no question about the outcome of that one. Unless, perhaps, the Saints' plane hit a mountain on the way. Even then, they'd probably still win.

Well, the Survival League would have ended after Week 6 just like last year had we not played with 2 strikes.  The extra strike pushed the league through week 13.

Congrats to Lucyjoyce who didn't even need her mulligan.

Called it.  Not to mention another head scratching 4th down call, when a FG would have won the thing.
