Sorry Boys,

My place is all filled up with one of the those heathens from across the pond. He talks a little funny but I got use to it last year. Even kind of liked it.

Got a new car back in December (all leather) I could rent that out for the recommended $100 a night. And yes I can have a coffee maker plug into the wall of the garage.

The Greenfield/Indianpolis KOA is actually only about 20 minutes away. Indianapolis doesn't have much in the way of eastern suburbs, so "the great outdoors" is closer to downtown than it has any right to be . KOA's about 30 dollars/night, very quiet, but no curfew. I wore a Gen Con t-shirt when I checked in last year, and the nice family that runs the place even offered to introduce me to some of the other gamers staying at the campground.

After staying in a Travelodge a few weeks ago, I can tell you that I have no problems paying the cost of the downtown hotels versus the cost of one of the cheaper hotels a few miles from downtown. The convenience alone is worth the extra money (and the GenCon rates are super cheap compared to regular rates). But the difference for me is the beds. Man those budget hotel beds are frickin' uncomfortable. My back is still on the mend from that awful Travelodge experience.

well i am staying at the a-la-martin-el-paso lodge - superb accomodation - quality service and certainly 5 stars

they even have D&D stuff there to read!

what more could you ask for??!!

Seriously, about biscuits and gravy you can't go wrong, course the same can be said for blood sausage and eggs, or beans on eggs on toast or Spam, Spam, Eggs and Spam. I've the best of both worlds - the love of English and American breakfast foods

Back on topic: I seriously have to get in touch with my friend, as he said he was getting a room early, just don't know if he did. Closer the better, because that means the bars and restaurants are closer to

As far as hotel rooms go for GenCon, I thought I would pass this observation along.

The rates go down if you book from Tuesday to Sunday as opposed to Wednesday to Sunday. Note this rate does not include the GenCon discount.

For instance,

Embassy Suites (2-room suite 1 king bed non-smoking)

Check in Wednesday - Check out Sunday (4 nights)
Rate: $239/night
Total with Taxes: $1099.40 = ($956 + $143.40)

Check in Tuesday - Check out Sunday (5 nights)
Rate: $179/night
Total with Taxes: $1029.25 = ($895 + $134.25)

If you pay in advance, they offer a $20 discount per night so for the same rooms:

Embassy Suites (2-room suite 1 king bed non-smoking)
Check in Wednesday - Check out Sunday (4 nights)
Rate: $219/night
Total with Taxes: $1007.40 = ($876 + $131.40)

Check in Tuesday - Check out Sunday (5 nights)
Rate: $159/night
Total with Taxes: $914.25 = ($795 + $119.25)

Rather than stay Sunday night, I will travel up a day early and hang out on Wednesday. This might be a good day for the Acaeum members to meet up and practice our GenCon strategery. :wink:

smarm: i will be arriving on the wednesday, but i imagine that i will be travelling there all day and wont get there til evening sometime. i will be quite tired and my daughter will be shattered, so doubtfully doing anything on the wednesday, unless martin wants to go find mike, john etc....

i will get my gencon access when it comes online this time, instead of queueing at the door - that did my head in having to do that.
