I commented on this in the Random Thoughts OT Thread:

6:30 PM Dungeons & Dragons: The Wrath Of The Dragon God
9:00 PM Dungeons & Dragons: The Book Of Vile Darkness

I found this information here.

The trailer for the new movie is here:

I bet this new movie sucks.   :(   Still, I give them props for trying.   :)

There was a post on this movie from Dragonsfoot I believe, that mentioned that as long as the guy who owned the rights to the D&D movies makes them every so often he can hold onto the rights...  *sigh*

RPG’s, D&D in particular has had a major influence in my life. It’s bonded me together with life long friends...it’s that bond in life not just as friends, but in our jokes, our mannerisms, and what we find funny. Invincible Overlord

Disclaimer: I am generally opposed to the entire idea of evil PCs and the whole evil party of adventurers. I find no interest in that at all. Not to mention it does not fit my idea of playing an RPG. Again, that is just me so take it as you will.

I could just say this movie was horrible and end it at that, but horrible just does not seem to go far enough. This piece of crap makes the first D&D movie look passable (which it isn't).

First off, who comes up with these scripts? Clearly someone who never bothered to see how D&D is played by the masses. Not that you have make the movie follow the game perfecty, but it should resemble it to some degree. TSR, just as an example, had guidelines for their products which included (for good reason) no evil parties and keep it rated PG in regard to activities that are generally conducted out of the public view (drugs, alcohol - to a lesser degree, and activities generally reserved for the bedroom). You want to put that stuff in a swords and sorcery movie, go right ahead. No big deal at all. But when you slap Dungeons and Dragons in the title, that stuff is out the door. It is an image thing. So they just said, screw it, let's break all the "rules." They did, and it sucked.

At more than one point I found myself saying, "No, they didn't just do that!" But they did. Murder left and right. A completely unsympethetic hero. Killing off a village of farmers...and on and on. This is how you want to show off your game! Really?! Characters classes and races that I can't relate to, or even classify as D&D.

Ok, so I watched this movie through a sort of classic D&D prism. But even outside of that, this movie had no compelling plot or characters. It was just there. The story - if you can call it that - was boring and uninteresting in the extreme. And it lacked the thing that every D&D movie must include, a sense of adventure. How do you make a fantasy movie without adventure? Well, you just make this particular movie.

And I could've bought these damn modules off the 1$ rack!!!

I made myself watch it from start to end. Why?

1. Its a great example for DMs on how NOT to run their campaigns.
2. Its a great example for moviemakers(writers/directors/actors/etc.) on how NOT to make a D&D movie.

That said,
I expect every game from every DM to improve.
I expect every future movie based on D&D to be spot on and fun and worth viewing.

Well, I can hope, can't I?
(Anyone got an extra Wish spell?)
