I managed to buy a copy of one of the (I think) hardest to find Set 1 Basic Rules 'foreign' language editions, the Portuguese language one  8)  While I agonize about seling it or not. I noticed some intreesting facts:

the box bottom is different from the usual TSR one: d&d set 1 basic rules portuguese version 006 | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

and this Portuguese edition was published very late if compared to other languages, in 1989: d&d set 1 basic rules portuguese version 008 | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

this is a photo of the set, in amazing conditions, booklets printed on quality paper, carstoack covers and two promotional flyers: All sizes | d&d set 1 basic rules portuguese version 007 | Flickr - Photo Sharing! (notice the still sealed dice set!  8)

the box lid is the usual: d&d set 1 basic rules portuguese version 005 | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

I'm very happy with this find, now I wonder if I'll ever see a Chinese language one

Congrats !

Very nice find... yes it is very hard to find, one of the hardest to find, for sure... There are "only" 3500 exemplaries.

The one I get came from Brazil (people interested can get more scans here). How did you get yours ?

Do you have any informations about the 'aventuras' ? I think only one was ever printed.

If Sociedade Tipografcia printed 3500 copies, I wonder how many survive today. I got it in Italy (pretty amazing...) but I have no more info.

Hi guys, been a lurker for years here but decided to finally post something.

I am also chasing the portuguese and the chinese versions as the few I am missing.

The ones I got as of late are the japanese and the dutch versions. Also after the finnish one.

Moreover, the serious collector ought to head out to Lisbon to search on the ground. And if that sounds like a lot of work, I would be more than happy to go there on your behalf :)
