Next week I am going to be in Austin for a few days for a conference and I was wondering if there were any gaming stores I should be sure to check out.  I won't have a car or a lot of time, just evenings during the week, but I figured with the Texas contingent on Acaeum it would be worth checking if there might be a couple of places I should try and get to.

The main store is Dragon's Lair, Anderson Lane at Burnett. They've recently moved into such a large space that the center has been made to look like a classic Macy's, with ladies' shoes (fannish stuff like pumps decorated with comic-book pages), a makeup counter (costume colors), and clothing racks (cosplay & t-shirts). All on the sort of displays used in department stores, for a pretty surreal effect. (As in, what if all the boring regions of the mall your mom used to drag you through could be magically transformed into something cool.) No used games tho.

The DFW area is the birthplace of Half Price Books...the chain was started in Dallas 40 years ago, there are 20 stores just in the DFW area and 50 in Texas (Austin has five I believe)

Thanks!  I actually stumbled on them on accident on the way to Half Price Books, though I didn't see too much rpg stuff.  Nice store though.  I was able to get a couple of decent, but not absolutely stellar, deals at Half Price Books thanks to the 40% coupon that was luckily valid today and the librarian/teacher discount they offer.
