Hey Guys,


Just checked this out, pretty amazing, these guys have really taken on the Labors of Heracles to produce this movie. While I have a small part in this endeavor, it is really quite breathtaking what they have put together in just this brief 30 second trailer. The number of primary sources, contemporary documents and artifacts, vintage photos and footage, carefully researched recreations, amazingly faithful sets, and extensive location shooting make this a phenomenal, virtual temporal and spatial trip through the history of Dungeons & Dragons.

Put together by the production team of Chris Haifley, James Sprattley and Andrew Pascal, they have really taken the first step toward making the world at large aware of the impact of this game on human culture. Anyway don't take my word for it, check it out for yourself...

So there's a 'story of' project with recreations (Gary at typewriter etc), and also a documentary?
I'm not quite clear on that.
Who are the narators?

The history of the fall apart of TSR is also something that always seemed to have been presented in the past in one biased light or other, and I've not read much from those who were actually there. gary presumably at some point signed himself into silence on the matter, or elected to remian discreet.

As I recall, neither RJK nor FM have poisted much, if anything about their understanding of those times.

Given the release of one (or both) of these documentaries, particularly if they were to be picked up by mainstream TV in the US, we could see a resurgence in paper based roleplaying games in schools. I don't know what it's like in the US, but here in the UK RPGs are pretty much for those in their mid-thirties and over, and highschool kids, if they do play games, play Warhammer, Warmachine and Flames of War, either in bedrooms or in Games Stores around the country.

To that end, had GW not been so aggressive in their pursuit if the youngsters over the past decade or more, we may well have seen a substantial loss of RPGs in the UK completely, kept alive only by us old-schoolers who grew up in its hayday.

Aside, a resurgence in interest in all things TSR would not go unappreciated by the collecting community one would imagine.

Doomsday #3 springs to mind, as Acaeum records only one copy known to exist.

Looks very interesting. What's the best book a out this period of TSR history?  Any opinions?

The information on that page is a bit dated. I imagine it will be tended to eventually; I'm sure that updating those pages immediately for every little fact that comes to light would be impractical.

More panegyric than pyrrhic thus far (beware of geeks bearing history gifts), but looks polished and will watch. ^^

p.s. ...Braunstein games... Lake Geneva, Wisconsin... You can play one person... 1972... And that was a big intellectual leap...

Seems a little disjointed hearing old Zep tunes to what became, ultimately, a mid-80s drama. Really well done, otherwise.

Meh. It seems to jump around chronologically. If I were to edit the soundtrack to this trailer, I would remove the late-'60s music because it resembles too many other horrible PBS documentaries. Even if the producers try to sell it to PBS, it would seem overly pandering.
