Well it is not that often that I get to add something really special to my collection  :)

Today it happened, a Dragon dropped by my door.  Eye of the Dragon to be more specific.

Many you have seen this very rare advertisement from Night Ventures

Check this out

And a Close up

This is the cover (the printed book later became Dragonlance) that the Hickman's made up just before Tracey started working for TSR. Very cool :D

More details later!

Neat!

Is it just a cover?

Still neat!

Well for sure I am happy  :D

Here is some history as far as my poor memory will serve.

Apparently the Hickman clan was moving and they came across a handful of these covers for Eye of the Dragon as well as another copy or two of Rahasia and Pharaoh. They sold the modules to a collector and held onto these for a bit.  An intermediary ( who may make themselves known at some point :) ) found out about these and basically purchased that handful of covers from them.  I traded a nice item for this cover to that same intermediary.  The cover also came with a certificate of authenticity detailing some of the history of the Hickman's and the small venture they were in.

So that is it  :D

Cheers

Jeff

Awesome. I'm just happy to see these back in the community and up for people to see.
I tried for ages to get shot at one of these four or five years back with no luck, so I'm happy to see there is more than one, and that someone did a good job releasing them into the wild.

This week I've been mostly eating . . . The white ones with the little red flecks in them.

So, does just the cover exist, or is there an adventure that goes inside the cover too?

From the Research page:

Another Daystar West module, Eye of the Dragon, was planned but never produced.  The Hickmans did, however, run off five hundred copies of the planned cover, which put them in a significant financial hole -- prompting them to make arrangements with TSR for the sale of Pharaoh, Rahasia, and Ravenloft.  The Hickmans apparently still have all copies of this module cover in storage at their home.  Thanks to David Smith for this info.  We recently obtained a scan of the cover, which you can view here.  Along with the scan is this descriptive text: "Characters level 5-6.  'Returning from the 5 Years War, they found the gates of their castle barred against them... and the enemy within.'  Armed with a 5 year old, outmoded map, players must not only deal with the changes in the tower itself but unmask the traitor from among themselves through a web of lies and deceit."  The cover and this text is all that was produced for the module; some of the ideas Hickman had for it were eventually rolled into what was to become DragonLance.

I was hoping that perhaps some new data had arisen, indicating the the adventure survived perhaps, too.  Thanks Scott :D
