The ACAEUM Limited Edition Art Committee is seeking input as we decide the next art project.  Inquiries into artists like Clyde Caldwell has revealed he would charge significantly more ($7,000.00 compared to $800.00) to copy his art.  Elmore has not even replied to our inquiries but we have not given up yet.  If we go with an expensive artist and pay the $7,000.00 or so, then the cost of each print potentially eliminates a lot of participants, thus increasing the cost for everyone who does buy in.  If we pursue cheaper artists, we lose some people because they are not enthusiastic about the art's market value, quality or both.  In one case we could be accused of elitism and the other case we could be accused of lowering our standards.  In either case, we may not get enough buyers.

Therefore, we prefer a project where we have at least sixty buyers.  Our first project had 65 prints and the second had 75 prints and each cost around $100 (not including shipping).  So, with the understanding that prints from Caldwell, Elmore, Brom, Fields, DiTerlizzi and Ruppel would likely cost at least $200.00 each instead of $120.00 to $140.00 from artists like Wham, Dee, Darlene and Tim Truman, please indicate which artists you would support SIGHT UNSEEN!  In other words, if you know you might not support an artist until you see the art, then do not choose that artist.  The committee has not researched how much each of these artists would charge or even if they would work with us.  I suspect the committee would not choose an artist where the cost per print exceed $250.00, probably less.  Each artwork would follow the same pattern we have pursued so far, that is, it would be a 17"x24," be a module-like cover of a D&D party fighting a classical monster, and include the word "ACAEUM" placed somewhere within the art.  The art would be rated G to PG.

The artists listed in the poll include primary artists who the committee would consider.  Polls are limited to 10 options.  Dennis Beauvais, while talented and has a history with D&D, will not be chosen by the committee, for example.  Examples of their work is not intended to be exhaustive.  If we can not get close to sixty votes for any one artist, then pursuing a community print may not be worthwhile for the committee.  The committee will take the results of this poll into consideration as we make our decisions, but will not be bound by the poll results.  Vote for as many artists as you like.  We are mostly trying to see which artists will get at least sixty votes, if any.

This thread could turn into a battleground of why one artist is better or better qualified than another.  But since art is subjective, I recommend we keep the tone factual and let the poll be the primary voice of our opinions.  If you choose the "someone not listed" option, feel free to list their name in your reply.  8)

btw, the poll lists "Jeff Caldwell" which should obviously be Clyde Caldwell

There are lots of other options too, in no particular order:

Daniel Horne
Dave Dorman
Alan Pollack
Tom Baxa
Jeff Butler
Mark Nelson
John & Laura Lakey
Tony Szczudlo
Walter Velez

maybe even "Elrohir" (Kenneth Rahman)

Yes, I had to leave out a lot of worthwhile candidates due to the poll limitations (10 options max).  Here are some that didn't quite make the cut on this poll:
Phil Foglio
Tom Wham
Fred Fields
David "Diesel" LaForce

For an exhaustive list of D&D artists, I'd recommend this web-page:

I picked Elmore but I would really participate for any of the artists mentioned.  Maybe you should have a "I will participate no mater what!" option. :)

If I had had more options available, I would have listed more artists and that option.  If you like everybody listed, you get 10 votes, just use them all.   8)

Click as many of them as you want when first voting.
Cannot go back later once votes are cast.

Should have an option in the poll that says "I will support any artist the committee selects"  this would give you an idea about the "base" support for these projects.

P.S.  WOuld love to have Fred Fields!!!

Not good.  It is important that each person not just vote for one artist unless that is the only artist they'll support.  I wonder if Foulfoot has a workaround for people who need to or want to re-cast their votes?    I apologize if my message was not clear.  I edited my post slightly to emphasize they had multiple votes.  Remember, we don't want to know who is the most popular artist; we want to know which artists would have at least sixty buyers from this community at their varying price levels.  :?

I would be so down with a nice, dark, Brom piece.... something skeletal. Yeah.

But, as long as the price did not got above $150, I'd be OK. Even if I don't personally like the piece, I'd still get it because its US.

Just now I:

-- reset the poll
-- removed the artist with the least votes (Tony DiTerlizzi)
-- added an option of "I'll purchase a print regardless of the artist"
-- allowed users to recast their votes

Hope this helps.
