The 1st through 4th printings of the OD&D sets have booklets which are individually priced at $3.50 each.

Were these actually ever offered outside of the boxed sets, or was that just an interesting marketing ploy to make the buyer think they were getting a good deal by purchasing the whole set for $10 and getting reference sheets and a box for free?
