Is this a workable environment for housing a 2e collection?

Hey gang,

SO as you might have figured out by my first couple of posts, I am pretty new to the vintage RPG collecting hobby. However, I am a long time board game collector. My board game collection is currently housed in my old home office. It was originally a garage that I converted when I started working from home. The garage door has been sealed shut, and now has a small central air and heat system. It is above ground and has never had an issue with mold or signs of dampness. My board game collection has been in there for a few years now and I haven't noticed any adverse effects, but board games I think tend to be a little more hearty than your typical vintage rpg manual. So I thought I would show you guys the space and see if you think it would be safe enough for my growing 2e collection to also be displayed in.

This photo is taken in the middle of the room, there is an equal amount of room behind me.

EDIT: I should also add that I live in Southern California.

As long as direct sunlight, humidity, and vermin are controlled, you're fine. That's pretty much all there is to storing paper items at the level we're talking about.

Areas of interest/knowledge: Harn, WFRP, Ars Magica, anything BRP based such as CoC, Runequest, Pendragon and all their related games

Are those IKEA cubes you are using for storage? I have a 5x5 I keep my vinyl in, they are very versatile. Nice room!

Yep. The center one is the older expedit line, and the two on either side are the kallax line that replaced expedit. As with vinyl collectors, the expedit/kallax shelves are the goto solution for board game collectors as well.

Yeah, I'm no expert, but I'd say you need a quality humidity gauge to know, plus tightly sealed everything to keep mice and bugs out.

I don't think Southern California has a thing called humidity.

If you wanted them to last a couple thousand years to be unearthed like the dead sea scrolls then yeah maybe a quality humidity guage is needed.

Opinions vary. Google something like:

archival paper storage humidity

and read and decide for yourself. But basically, as long as it isn't bone dry or moist, then you'll be fine.
