So today my wife got a very strange email.

Somebody (possibly named Nathan Richards) with an email address of metalshark420@gmail.com sent her some pics of the OD&D books just out of the blue; no text just the pictures.

She replied:

> Thank you
> very much for these amazing pics of the Original D&D
> boxed set contents.
>
> Umm. May I know why and who you are?
>
> Thanks
>
> -Angela

Then he sends this cryptic message:

> Nov 24, 2017, at 18:01, nathan richards <metalshark420@gmail.com>
> wrote:
>
> A seller I have 1 offer of 2k care to
> beat it

Carrying on with the conversation she sends this Email back:

> Uh. Well
> sorry. I don't know you.
> You might have better luck using a
> legitimate selling website like eBay or RPG
> marketplace.

To which he replies:

> On Nov 24,
> 2017, at 20:44, nathan richards <metalshark420@gmail.com>
> wrote:
>
> I could send pics of every Paige they
> are legit I found them in the summer at a garage sale and
> just recently found the value

Then she replies to end the conversation :

> That's
> a great find. Good luck.

This is obviously a scam, one thing that puzzles us is where did he get her contact info?

Anyway beware, the scammers are out there and pushing hard

Google your own email adress and see if you have posted to a tread that talks about the value of similar items (do an image search with Google with the pics sent as well)

I responded to Ningning on mChat to post what he has to the greater Acaeum community we could take a look at it and provide some feedback.  That would be the best way to assess the value and get the best price.  Would also allow us to better substantiate that it's real, as there are quite a few scammers as we all know.

Would really need to see some photos before I would comment on value.  Lots of people who come to this site think they have one thing but really have something different.  Also, many people overestimate condition and then say things like "they are near mint for their age", etc.

If you want an estimate, you can look up the value here:  Rulebooks Index

If you are missing the box and possibly reference sheets then you should probably look up "fair" condition - likely what you have are 5th printing of the books so in the $75-$100 range.

Look I have no problem with this stuff, the way you are going about trying to sell it is shady.  Post on ebay already and stop lying to us about this mythical 2K offer.

Maybe Philippines, not China.

At any rate, if you got a 2k offer, take the money and run.

Why aren't you putting this on eBay?  You can get a lot more than $2000 for this if you go through some verification.

If you believe this is legit, you are cheating yourself out of a lot of money by not providing pictures - but since you won't do that, we can only assume you don't believe this is legit?  Help us understand because this does not make sense.
