So badges went on sale today for Gen Con 2018.  After much deliberation, I decided not to renew the VIG badge I have had for years now.  They just aren't worth the cost, in my view.  (And don't ask me to transfer it to you, they don't allow that.)  I was going to just buy a badge for Friday and Saturday, but a 4-day badge costs less than two days.   :?  So a 4-day badge has been purchased, and I've got a hotel room outside the downtown area (thanks to Mrs. stratochamp).  I'm not sure I really want to stay for the whole con, but we'll see.  I really enjoy the other, smaller cons (Gary Con, NTRPGCon, Gamehole Con) much more than Gen Con.

Anyway, anyone else planning on going?

And that would be an example of the "sunk cost fallacy."   :P

Ill Be there but Gen Con Housing is really starting to turn into a joke. Last year starts at 12pm Eastern my time to get housing was 2:40pm nothing but past Airport Avaible. This year starts at 12pm My time to get housing 7:01 pm i am sure that there will be nothing left.

I'll be there, but the housing lottery hit us hard. My friends and I all got login times of 6:30 PM or later, and by that time the closest hotel left was seven miles away. Looking outside of the housing portal turned up a hotel room a few blocks away, but at a hideously inflated price, and the room itself is tiny. Hopefully we'll be able to get a better one sometime between now and August.

Event registration opened today.  At 12 noon ET you could submit your wish list, for it to be processed--in theory--in the order of submission, but in actuality in some order determined by Zagyg or another mad god, I believe.  I had a bunch of events in my wish list, including duplicates at the same times to cover the eventuality that my first choice was sold out by the time they processed my list.

I clicked at exactly 12 noon (so fast I didn't even see the button go live), and for six minutes it said, "Waiting for server to respond."  Then it told me that I was 7369th in line for my wish list to be processed.

By the time my wish list was processed, I got into only three events (but did get onsite parking, which is critical since I am not staying at a downtown hotel this year).  So I checked out of my cart and paid.  After a while, however, I rechecked my wish list.  The way Gen Con works it, you have to pay within 2 hours of items being credited to your cart, or the cart empties.  Three of the events I had on my wish list but that I hadn't initially gotten became available, presumably because some folks didn't know they needed to pay in that time period.  So I ended up with six events from my wish list.  Not too bad, in the end.

Thanks go to Blackmoor for picking up a ticket to True Dungeon for me.  So I'll have seven events at Gen Con, in addition to time spent in the auction.

I'll be there, as usual, and will probably spend most of my time running around the auction, also as usual. :)
