No Dice wrote in Gygax signature authenticity help:Hi All,I seldom post here but read often. I'm looking for some expert signature advice. I recently acquired this bookplate inside a standard 6th printing PHB, but I'm not entirely convinced of its authenticity. The seller tells me the provenance is legit. He made and sent Gary a book plate in the late 90s to sign for his game crew to put in one of their campaign books. The letters of the signature are all within range of what I've seen in Gary's dedications and signatures, especially the "E", "r", "n" of Ernest and the last name. I've just never seen Gary sign as Ernest. Could be Ernie's, I suppose. I have admittedly seen very few of his sigs, but it always looks pretty different than Gary's. He also normally adds "Jr." If it's a forgery, whoever did it went through a hell of a lot of trouble to find examples of the letters in the name Ernest that match Gary's handwriting, but maybe that's not hard. Any thoughts? Won't be disappointed either way, I just love a good mystery. Cheers and thanks for the help.- No Dice
