Fellow Acaeumites -

I recently found a notation that lacks a footnote in the 1st edition AD&D player's handbook.  On the weapon table, under the length column there are several weapons with a "c." notation.  In the printings I've looked at there is no foot note to explain the "c."  A venerable member of our community suggested it means approximately.

That seems a reasonable explanation as all the weapons' lengths are either in a range of measurement (x-y) or with a simple c. notation.  (Except the two lances and Fouchard-Fork - the later is specifically noted as 8' in length.).

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Thanks!

c. 4' or c. 1 1/2' simply means "approximately 4 feet" or "approximately 1.5 feet"---the "c." here meaning "circa" (Latin for "around" or "about").
