How does selling items work at this auction? What percentage does GameHoleCon take? Last year was my first year there, and I wasn't sure how that all worked.  :?:

Presumably have to be there to win?

I could use a couple R-series... but there is no way I can attend.

According to Mike and Alex, at the moment, yes.  If you can find someone that will proxy bid for you, then you can bid of course.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend this year either.  I was looking forward to attending, but have another commitment.

If a person were just looking to maximize profit, would it still be better to list items for sale on ebay instead of the Gameholecon auction?

I've got a number of high dollar items I'm wanting to sell, and I'm debating the best way to do it.

eBay is probably better if you want to maximize profits.  However, if you have a poor seller reputation, or don't provide lots of good pictures, or don't know how to pack collectibles well, or something like that, you may come out just as well at auction.  Plus, by going the auction route, you have a much better chance that your collectible will go to someone who properly appreciates it.   8)

Truth is worth finding and life is too short to work for money.

Agree with the comments above.

I will add that you will probably have a lot of the most ardent collectors at this auction, plus a portion of the proceeds is donated to charity.

The auction is a lot more fun than eBay too!

Any chance we can get the prices these items were sold at?

Lost Caverns of Tsojconth – First Printing – Excellent Condition - 5K

Lost Tamoachan - First Printing Number 99 – Excellent Condition - 5K

I had just refinanced my house, and paid off my car. I was looking to acquire the Tamoachan.

First bid was 5K. I thought it would have gone for 3-4K... Then I found out Ingo would have paid up to 8K for it...

I need to sell a few more things now...

With what prices were going for at GameHole Con, I would have dumped everything I could. They were going for retail to top dollar...

I agree with IO.  Prices were very solid at the Gamehole auction, and frankly I think it was the best auction (in terms of the quality and quantity of high end items) I've seen in at least the last ten years (and maybe ever).  Buyer's also get the benefit of an item grade from stratochamp, so you know exactly the quality of the item before you bid.  In addition, many of the items were donated, in which case all of the proceeds went to charity.  For those items not donated, the convention charged a seller's premium (15% I think), but did not keep it -- that went to charity as well.  So if you're selling a higher end item, the Gamehole auction is a great forum where you can get a very good price, and you're doing some good at the same time.  And if you're a buyer in the market for rares, there's no place you'll find as many of them in the same place at the same time.

I keep checking to see if the final prices are posted. I am hoping things sold for a lot more than I would have paid. The shrink white box 4th print, R series, and a few other things sounded glorious. I got the ok to drive the 8+ hours, buy my badge at the gate, attend the auction, stay the night and come back to the family for the Sunday game; but told myself that was nuts. I do not want to wonder any longer.

Someone can just lie for all I care. Throw out ridiculously high amounts. Say you were there and were amazed at how much stuff went for.

I need closure.

Unfortunately, I didn't write down prices.  But I can tell you that the shrink 4th/5th print white box (you can't tell which printing, unless you open the shrink...) went for $5,000.

Sigh. Which is where I dropped out. Lost Tamoachan (#99/300) in NM condition also sold for $5000.

Shrink is not a condition

Thank you for the reply! I would have walked out empty handed from the sounds of it.

It still would have been nice to go. :)
