Yeah, they've been pretty largely derided on the dice collecting group pages as a cash grab by Wizards due to the popularity in dice collecting in the last few years.
To be fair, if you look at the other products by the maker (Level Up Dice), that's pretty consistent with what they charge for a set of dice. Considering in that these are "Official" product. They are a pretty respectable "high end" maker of dice.
They really should have went with a real sapphire though. They're going to charge that kind of price and then do lab grown, anyone with an internet connection can find out lab grown sapphires are sold on etsy for a dollar a piece in bulk.
Keep treating your customer base like they are rubes, it will get you everywhere in business

Yeah, you're not alone there, that question came up frequently in the various FB posts. Probably not a lot though (200-500 would be my guess).

Dice collecting is pretty huge right now. I'm in a few groups on Facebook with 10K members each (probably a lot of people are in more than one group though)
This would be a better indicator of the potential market though. A recent Kickstarter had $1.5 million in funding in its first 20 hours

$40-50 a set would be considered very reasonable for this quality of hand made dice though, so there's good reason for it's success.

I don't collect dice either, but I collect minis, and lots of people on these forums aren't into that.  Some people collect cars, some people collect stamps, some people collect stuff in shrink....  To each his own.

Oh I agree. My post was mostly because sir kill alot did not seem to be aware of how big dice collecting has become in the past year or two.  I don't think these dice are interesting enough nor-valuable enough for the $300 price tag but then again there are people on there willingly paying $50+ for a single Chessex Borealis die.

They are some really nice die but I'll keep throwing my originals from the basic boxed set whose corners are so worn they resemble marbles more than polyhedrals.  Waiting 20 seconds for them to come to a rest does slow the game down a bit.
