I had a moment looking through my collection/want lists last week. I wondered when I was going to use, or even read, all of these books. Once I realized that the answer is never, I decided that 2020 is going to be a nice even cutoff point. Do I need new Call of Cthulhu material, or is all the material from the first 40 years enough? Ditto new
OSR material, or
GURPS, or whatever. Even if there were to be something great, I have enough material to weave any tale I want to already. That realization allowed me to break the FOMO quite cleanly. I even canceled a pledge for a current Kickstarter that won't show up until who knows when!
After December, I'll still buy new material for the few things I think are truly exceptional (Harn, Design Mechanism's Mythras line, ... that may be all) and I'll keep searching for the ever shrinking want list of older material. And perhaps I may part with a few things, but that's down the road.
It feels good to have closure, of a sort.
