Bagging your stuff will help with humidity.  It won't help if you wake up In the morning and there is fog in your room.  

Curious what part of the country you are in.  Some climates are much better than others for keeping items in great condition.

I live in the Midwest and my collection is down in our finished basement. I have a dehumidifier right next to the bookcases and I haven't had any issues at all. I keep the dehumidifier set at 40%.

They are just desiccant packs.  They might work, but they will eventually become saturated and have to be replaced.  Some desiccants can be reactivated, but these don't indicate that they can.

You should consider the cost of using these vs. having some type of dehumidification system.  A standard A/C system should do the trick, or a dehumidifier in a basement that doesn't have adequate A/C.

If your items are getting direct sunlight, then that could be a problem.  Most modern windows block solar heat and UV rays, though, but usually not 100%.  If the windows are older, that could be a problem, without shades or blinds.  Otherwise, I don't think that would be too much of an issue.

I would also recommend looking at where your supply vents are located.  It's best not to have them blowing directly on your shelf.

It's a good idea to bag and board (when applicable) your books and boxed sets.  It helps to keep them from bowing and bending.
