A while back I posted about finding USA 3rd print box sets in the UK.  I just got another one from UK, and at the bottom is a Citdels Miniature LTD flyer from Brighton.  And it was clearly put in the box first because the flyer is slightly too big for the box and the top edge is folded up against the side of the box because it doesnt fit.  This is the 3rd USA basic set I have bought from a UK original owner, so I think there is legs to the theory I suggested that before the UK black side box was ready TSR filled the void with 3rd print sets.  And I think it was before the black side set, because i have seen receipts for those black side sets from 1979 and 1980, while the 3rd print is May 1978.  This set has a US version of the 2001 lizard may 78 rulebook, but I think I have at least one with the UK GW version of the rulebook inside so there may have been some frankensteining going on as well.

Has anyone else bought basic 3rd prints out of UK and seen either the GW version of the rulebook or distinctive UK flyers inside?

Well, i don't recall exactly and i should check the foreign editions of the Holmes edition but you have likely found the UK edition with a thin box... If inside there is a GW flyer i doubt that someone threw it in the box once bought.
The uk holmes version was done in 1978, the following uk version is the mentzer digest-size book done in 1986... It is possible that within this 8-year window another version/edition was available for thr UK market...

Edit: uh oh... Sorry i realized now that you are assuming this version to be prior of the thick box! Therefore my comment goes in the wrong direction!
