It seems like there is little alignment of price with the rarity and quality of items. I wonder if the person who bought the Dragon #1 even knows how rare a first print Men and Magic, or First Print Greyhawk are.

We saw a first print men and magic sell for $500 recently. First print Dwarven Glory for less than $3k, True First Print PHB for less than $2500. I am still stunned by the price of 5e alternate covers compared to many ODnD items.

Maybe there arent enough collectors to establish a price for so many items like there are in trading card games?

I guess this actually went for $8k.

Your description of the crypto bro/ape equates me to a DnD-bro I guess? Some consider it tasteless to discuss the price of things. I get it.

Its was part of the baseball card price guides of the 80s, comics in the early 90s, Magic with Duelist, Scrye and TopDeck in the mid/late 90s, and though I gave it all up for more than a decade, its still part of the things I collect. It isnt the only topic I have posted, but grading is driving more conversation for me that it did five years ago. I dont think I have ever seen a DnD Price Guide, outside of the Acaeum's. It's certainly not something folks have watched transition from magazine to internet.

We do discuss "records" and "silly" prices. This was kinda both? It stood out. I dont expect you to answer. :)

Hello bill, long time mate.

We all had these same discussions...what...15 years ago? Nothing has really changed. Maybe due to a bunch of landmarks cropping up...prices peak for a while. We all know though...eventually, they will nosedive. Inevitable with most things. Demand will wane once the prices become unreachable.

Seen it in many genres....especially beatles collectibles....prices get so obscene....ppl just switch off and go for what they can afford instead.

If youre happy paying for an item   whatever its cost, in whatever condition/grade it has...then good for you.

Nothing beats seeing something in your own hands. Condition is always open to individual opinion anyway....i dont care what anyone tells me...i see it myself and decide accordingly.
