I figured this auction might of interest to many in the group. Almost everything in the auction has been professionally graded.

No super rares, the 2 rarest items (aside from some warhammer original art) are probably the triple signed 1st edition deities and demi-gods and the 9.8 L3.

I think I prefer grades over sealed grades. I have gone back and forth over this, and price tags matter, but I would value a 9.2 without a seal over a 9.2 in plain shrink. That being said, I do hope the auction goes well, will be bidding and Yes, I will likely submit some items in shrink for slabbing!

That's quite the hot take! I'm sure you're not alone, but as indicated by price, many people would prefer an item in shrink vs opened.

As you note, not so much a hot take here at the Acaeum, where shrink is (rightly) regarded as not a condition. All sorts of fun mouldy things can happen over many years (decades) under shrinkwrap. Look, shrink is cool, and I have some items in shrink to be fair, but I would not trust any claim to condition for a sealed or shrinkwrapped item unless it has been opened and examined.

Definitely a hot take and one I don't understanbd personally. What can really go wrong with a sealed module? Things like a little staple rust don't bother me a bit. I guess for me collecting mass produced product is trying to get an example as close to the condition it was in when it rolled out from the factory, which is high grade and sealed. Fake shrink is another matter.

Modules and books wrapped (sealed) in plastic can go mouldy if stored somewhere with temperature variations. Book collectors know this. Personally, I have opened sealed modules to be confronted with that telltale sharp vinegar smell. I get that you want to acquire something untouched but shrink is not necessarily a guarantee of great condition.

Lots of times you'll be able to see the mold, or smell it through the shrink. Unless moisture gets in, which you should be able to tell by the vent holes, I think it should be good. I had some video games that were sealed stored in a damp basement. You could tell easily that mold grew as you could see it on the shrink itself along with the box.

Actually the disappointing thing with Heritage is that you have to pay a $29 buyer premium no matter what your bid is, or 20% if you bid that high which would be $600. $29 additional each piece seems a bit much. You may be better off finding a sealed copy on Ebay of certain items and slabbing it yourself.

Yes, sometimes you can. Other warning signs are rusty staples (you need moisture for rust). Ordinarily you might see mould spots on the paper (but you cannot if it is sealed).

The keys are going to be early TSR modules, AD&D 1E, in 8.5 or better condition. They are 40+ years old, and everyone played their copies, spilled drinks on them, wrote in them, etc. People are going to soon realize how difficult it is to find one of these in NM (9.2) condition or better.

Right now leading in the Heritage auction are exactly what you would think if that's the case: D3 8.5---$360; I6 9.2---$310; G1-3 9.4---$310; S1 Mono 6.5---$280; S1 Green cover 9.4---$260; S4 Orange cover 9.4---$220; S3 8.5---$210. While I am seeing a LOT of 2E adventures and later in NM condition, just not seeing that with the earliest stuff.

And still a week to go....

A bit shocking how many graded items are still under $30 with 8 hours to go with quite a few that are in the teens. There is definitely separation on desirable items and more fodder for the 'not everything should be graded' camp. I hope the auction is a huge success for all the items involved, it will only help our community grow.

Grow with investors who acquire with two eyes on appreciation and future resale. To each their own, but I personally prefer it if this hobby grew with people who were in it simply because they love it.

Yeah I can't tell if the results are good across the board or not.
How much is the CGC grading fee for these modules? CBCS was something like 25 per book, which was cheap enough for me.
Curious how printing affects some of the results as well, or do collectors not care that much.

CGC is $25 per module. We have been advised cleaning and pressing, an additional $15, isnt necessarily helping grades. It makes modules look better imho though. Plus $5 if you want a high res scan to be included when people look up the cert number. So, anywhere from $25 to $45 per module plus shipping each way.

There were not any first print monos up for auction. I dont think we can tell anything from printings.

Overall now, I think several modules went stupid high, most went for about what I might think and there were a few low end bargains.

The buyers premium was so high I couldn't figure out what "BP" meant, full well knowing there is a buyers premium.
