With Gen Con 2024 starting in a little under a week I thought I would start a thread to talk about things coming into the auction that we know about and how things are shaping up in general.

A quick recap of last year for those who didn't attend. The Auction moved from its location across from the main hall to a ballroom at the Mariott. This gave the auction a LOT more space to expand the store and widen the aisles. The auction will be in the same place this year and, as far as I know, there are no plans to move it in the foreseeable future.

Despite some grim predictions before the show, it was a staggering success: 3,888 items auctioned and a mind boggling 8,625 items sold through the store. (14,078 items were registered and 12,513 sold.) The chart topper is $7500 for the TSR Hobbies 1982 Annual Report which I was told was either the highest or second highest realized price at the Gen Con Collectibles Auction.

We were a little busy to say the least...

One of the complaints all of us have heard/said/thought was that the Collectibles Auction has been a little thin over the last few years. That seems to be changing in a couple of ways. One of the things we saw last year was that there was a LOT of new bidders/money in the room. The Annual Report turned into a bidding war where the final two bidders were not members of "The Usual Suspects." We also saw our first slabbed items come through the auction, graded by CGC, and the slabbed items certainly garnered a premium over comparable items when you look at the numbers.

This year's Auction/Consignment store numbers are staggering. I'm not certain I am allowed to share the numbers yet but as soon as I can, I will post them here. Let's just say year on year growth is significantly larger in both categories. We are going to need every inch of the consignment store and we will be moving at a brisk pace at the podiums.

The 2024 Collectibles Auction is already shaping up with some staggering things. We have some original art this year, including an Easley published illustration from a Spellfire card and a Parkinson(!) among them. There's at least one brown box, possibly two. (One is reported to be a true 1st printing but I'll let Stratochamp be the one to verify.) I know there is a Gorgonstar Titan as well as signed expansions for it. Some things from Gary's estate previously sold by Paul, things in shrink, etc. We continue to get great items of interest to the collecting community.

I'll post updates through intake on Wednesday and Thursday. By Friday we should have a good idea of what we are looking at.

Looking forward to seeing everyone again. This year I plan on spending more time at the show, last year I was exhausted due to work and only spent about 8 hours at the convention.

Anyone know of any exclusives or must haves this year(other than the PHB).
