For me Dragon ended years ago.  I used to love the magazine but somewhere along the line I just lost interest.  Probably was around the time of the 2nd edition crap.   

And from what I have seen of the new web site - the name of which escapes me at the moment - I don't see the quality improving.  

Wotc and Dragon both took the fun out of D&D years ago.
3rd Ed comes out and within 8 months that was tossed for 3.5... and mega sales.

What the heck is that crap? Yes, wotc can and very likely will Rot In Hell....

IIRC, 3.5 came out about 2 years after 3.0, not 8 months.  Also, 3rd edition has been in print for just about seven years now, so it has been awhile.  It must be that old age make time seem to go faster thing.

Nah, all WotC needs is ownership, some basic stuff to SRD, and then license the hell out the name. That's where a lot of money comes in: computer games, console games, letting other companies use things like "beholders," "drow" and whatever else WotC decides is now their sole property. They don't even really need a game to go with it... just the name.

They don't...even if they think they do.

They might own some of their own imagery of drow and Vault of the Drow and stuff like that....but the word "drow" ain't theirs any more than they could own the word "Odin," "Muspelheim," "Thor," "nirvana" or "Tarterus."  

Those words just ain't theirs...and neither is "drow": A ghostly dweller in a burial mound or a haunter of the underworld or a fairy-like creature with those same traits.

I remember when ICE once claimed to own gaming rights to a dwarf named "Balin."  They didn't...unless they could somehow claim to own the Elder Edda and other Norse sagas.  They didn't own it any more than they owned the name "Zeus."

Same with "drow."
