Hi folks,

Over in this thread I mentioned my now very nearly complete index of D&D monsters. I'm busy preparing the September release of the index, and there are now only two D&D products I have not yet been able to check for monsters.

Is there a kind soul (or two) who has a copy of Lost Caverns of Tsojconth and/or Black Opal Eye (RPGA2) who could check to see if either of those publications contain stat blocks for new creatures, and if so, on what page those creatures appear?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated  :D

Well, it's been less than 24 hours . . .

But, taking your comment at face value, Echohawk's not asking for someone to potentially damage it through photocopying or scanning; he's just asking for someone to type the stats.  All that someone needs to do is pop it open, flip through it, take a few high-res digital photos, and send them to him.  What's the problem? :?:

Echohawk's project is worth a few minutes to jot down a few notes, isn't it?  And, no, I don't have a Tsojconth, so that gives me leeway to wag my finger.

He's not even asking for an image of the statblock, actually. Just the page number it appears on. Like... "kuo-toa, page 17" or whatever.

i flipped through RPGA2 and didn't notice any new creatures.  there are various stat blocks listed throughout the module for encounters, but nothing new (orcs, goblins, i think i saw a gelatinous cube)

I've already transcribed all of the encounters in Tsojconth vs. S4 on my site @ http://www.greyhawkonline.com/grodog/gh ... nters.html

Hopefully that'll help :D

(And do please send me your index when it's done, too, Echohawk!).

Thanks for all the help -- looks like the only new creatures from Tsojconth are the Chinese Hill Giants. Strange that those never appeared again in D&D lore!

Grodog (and others interested), the latest version of the (almost) complete monster index is available here. I'm waiting for one or two miscellaneous products and the last issue of Dragon to arrive in the post, and then I think it'll be complete. When it is, I'm be sure to post a link here ;-).

You might want to add the AD&D comics as well... I'm sure that there were some creature states given in the back  of them... not every issue but on some of them I recall... There were also the UK versions of the Poly, german versions of the poly, germany dragon mag, french version dragon mag... a whole heap of UK Zines which I just won't tell you how many there were as you'll just oull your hair out if I do... Did some of the collector cards that TSR put out have stats on them as well....

Well.... all the monsters from the collector's cards and almost all of the comics are included in the index. The collector's cards actually have one creature -- the carcavulp -- which has never appeared any where else in print! I've only found two creatures (so far) on the back pages of the comics.

I've generally steered clear of foreign language products unless they have creatures which didn't ever appear in English. (So the גולדשיטר and פרפרית from the Hebrew adventure HCM1 are in the index, for example.) As far as UK zines go, I included in all the D&D creatures from issues #4-93 of White Dwarf since they are semi-official D&D creatures by virtue of some of them later appearing in the Fiend Folio. I didn't check the more obscure sources like Owl & Weasel and Dungeoneer though, partly because they are pretty low on the 'canon' scale and partly because they are so hard to find.

However, now that you mention it, I also haven't checked the UK versions of Polyhedron. Did they have significantly different content from the US versions? In particular, do they have any monsters not appearing elsewhere?

Yeah, I hear ya.  The index just wouldn't be complete without the גולדשיטר ...
