I have electronic copies of A&E from Lee Gold, but Alarums & Excursions #9, pages 44-50 are faded and unreadable.

I assume that is the best copy Lee has. Does anyone here have a copy of this issue with legible pages 44-50?

Just as a general tip on working with A&E: the reprints Lee did tend to be far more legible than the originals, since she largely retyped them rather than using the author-supplied stencils, which often made for unreadable copies. If I recall, I supplied the reprint she's using for #8 (retyped in October 1976, for an issue originally printed in February), but she got her #9 from someone else. The reprints have a completely different pagination, not that page numbers mean much in a copy of A&E.

If my hunch about your interest is correct, then I'd add you won't find any mention of Bill Stoddard in Notes from Underground #3 apart from a parenthetical "(courtesy Bill Stoddard of S.D.)" in the credit for the Poet class.

Defiance Dungeon is clear. I can scan it if you wish.
