Blurb on front cover:
An ideal first adventure to master the role-playing experience!
This supplement serves as a beginners guide to game mastering and playing 3rd Edition D&D.
A complete neophyte could take this book (with the Core Rules) and run the books adventures with no other supplemental aid.
In fact, with this supplement in hand, even a new game master would seldom need to pick up the core rules books either.
Blurb on rear cover:
Orcfest is the perfect start-up adventure for the new 3rd edition of the Dungeons and Dragons role-playing game. It's a rollicking quest that culminates in a climactic battle against an Orc War Chief and his army, paired with a step-by-step guide to character development, die-rolls, combat, and more.
As you play, both the game master and players receive advice and hints to explain the game for first timers. Even experienced players will find tips for faster, more streamlined play-tricks that took the rest of us many years to discover!
The books first 26 pages are a Step-By-Step section detailing how to play
D20 (3rd Ed. D&D); which most of us would probably ignore but would be very useful to some folks.
However; the supplement then includes Sixty (60) pages of adventures.
As you might suspect the adventures are for low to mid level PCs.
The book is set up for 1st to 5th Level PCs.
The adventures are (
IMO) Very well done and would be fun to run.
One Human Town; with 18 individual areas/buildings detailed.
One Orc Village; with plans for the PCs to infiltrate the Orc village in the guise of Orcs. While an Orc Festival is being held.
One Ancient Temple; with one main level and two dungeon levels.
Several Wilderness encounters.
Eight additional Adventure hooks are listed in the back of the book, each Hook covers at least a half page of data for creating other adventures in the same area.
The book includes several wilderness and Town/Village/Temple encounter maps, including a full-page map of the Town of Solitude with building and data for 18 individual locations and the surrounding area. That map also includes a regional map at the upper right corner of the larger Town Map. (See scan below).
The supplement also includes all the data that a new group of D&D players would need (Other than the 3.x core rules books) to begin and complete this 3rd Edition adventure/slash mini-campaign module.
After first reading this book; I had hoped to use this supplement after I have converted some of the contents to Castles & Crusades, and/or 1st/2nd Edition.
But I think I will instead be turning this one over to my grandson (he is 13 years old) as he likes 3rd Edition and runs his own Fantasy
RPGs at home.
This would be almost perfect for his home games.
Hmmm.... perhaps I can find another copy....?
